As a periodic follow up to the Navy Leaguer “Reef Points” column, and in support of our mission to support America’s sea services, we will provide “Reef Points” information for use of all Navy League members.
In sailing, the primary purpose of reef points is to reduce the sail area during strong winds to add stability and provide for controlled steering.
Some may know of “Reef Points” as the small gouge book that Navy plebe midshipmen are issued to survive the rough waters of Plebe summer and Plebe year.
The “Reef Points” Guide is a wealth of nautical and maritime information, and has proven to be the one essential guide for stability and controlled steering for new midshipman.
The intent of our Navy League “Reef Points” is to enrich your experience as a Navy League member by providing you with information that may be essential in support of the Navy League mission.
The “Reef Points” periodic postings will be to share information, background, and news you can use.
