The Navy League’s ADM James Holloway, Jr. award was presented to Midshipman Jessica Parrett at the University of Utah NROTC commissioning ceremony on May 7th. This annual award, which includes an engraved watch for the recipient, is presented to the most outstanding NROTC midshipman in the nation as determined by the Naval Service Training Command.
Graduating with a 3.9 academic average from the Westminster College professional pilot program, midshipman Parrett’s academic performance, exemplary personal behavior and military aptitude qualified her as this year’s recipient. NROTC students at Westminster College are affiliated with the University of Utah Naval Science program.
Rocky Mountain Region president Steve Kelly presented the award to Midshipman Parrett during the commissioning ceremony held in the rotunda of the Utah State Capitol building in Salt Lake City. Jessica’s parents, Pattie and Jeffrey Parrett, of Spearfish, South Dakota, were present to pin her Ensign bars during the ceremony.
Utah council member CAPT Tim Lawrence took part in the proceedings by administering the oath of office to Marine Corps 2nd Lt Kevin Peck. Council president Susan Anderson and council members CAPT Hal Murdock and Lt Col. Dan Hudson represented the local Navy League.
Ensign Parrett will be graduating with an Aviation Flight Operations major which includes private, instrument, and commercial single- and multi-engine ratings, with significant mountain flying experience. She will be attending flight school in Pensacola, Florida, later this year.![]() |
